Sen. Cory Booker Calls Trump’s SCOTUS Pick A ‘Constitutional Crisis’

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker called the possibility of nominating Trump’s nominee for Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh a “constitutional crisis” Monday on MSNBC.

“I have no doubt this president, who seems to be very concerned about himself, didn’t see that as a shining pearl within the picks that he had and the criteria that he looked at,” Booker said.

“I’ve been saying emphatically before this and now I will be saying with an even stronger voice that we as the United States Senate, forget partisanship or what have you, out of respect for the Constitution, to avoid a constitutional crisis, we cannot let this confirmation process go forward,” Booker continued. “Especially now that we have someone that has clearly said they have a strong opinion should any of those issues come before the Supreme Court.”

He speculated that Kavanaugh was chosen because trump believed he would “have his back” in light of the Mueller probe should anything come before the Supreme Court.
