Liberals protested President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on the steps of the Supreme Court Monday night, immediately following the president’s announcement of his nominee.

Potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren spoke at the rally on the steps.

“We are in the fight of our lives,” she said.

“I know this will be hard, but we didn’t get into this fight because it was easy,” Warren added. “We didn’t get into this fight when the odds would be stacked into our favor. We got into this fight to build a country that embodies the best in America.”

Many liberals fear Trump’s nomination of a fifth conservative to the Supreme Court could result in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 court ruling that legalized abortions nation wide. Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides abortions, sent out a fundraising email asking for donations and for supporters to contact their senators.

The president announced his selection of Judge Bertt Kavanaugh on Monday night. If confirmed, he will replace Justice Anthony Kennedy — who announced his retirement at the end of last month. (RELATED: PRESIDENT TRUMP’S SUPREME COURT PICK IS IN)
