MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough accused President Donald Trump of purposely undercutting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Wednesday on “Morning Joe” and said he’s looking to fulfill the dreams of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Europe spends more money on national defense, on the defense of the EU than does Russia — Europe spends as much money on the defense of that continent as does China,” Scarborough said. (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Says Trump’s Lawyers Think He’s ‘Too Stupid’ To Face Bob Mueller)

He also claimed NATO was one of the major factors in holding back “Russian aggression” and called Trump hypocritical for attacking the international status quo.

“They are a strong bulwark against Russian aggression. And with Donald Trump going in and hypocritically attacking them, Germany, for trading with Russia, when all he has done for the past two years is talk about the need to build closer relationships with Russia is — is just so, such a transparent [strategy].”

Scarborough said Trump is carrying out “Putin’s deepest wish” and is helping expand the Russian president’s sphere of influence by being critical of NATO.

“I’m sure [Trump] thinks he’s being clever, but it’s a transparent way to carry out Vladimir Putin’s deepest wish,” Scarborough concluded. “Which is, to undermine our alliance with NATO. Undercut a military strategic alliance that is like a dagger in the heart of Putin’s expansionist dreams.”
