Designer Creates One-Size-Fits-All Gender Fluid Collection

A French fashion designer created a one-size-fits-all gender fluid collection that is meant to complement different body types.

Sebastián Pons, a photographer, artist, and fashion designer based in Spain, created the Muchache fashion line to offer gender-free clothes for consumers, according to Vogue Wednesday. Pons took the Spanish word”Muchache” that is used as a gender-neutral form of “muchacho” or “muchacha,” a term for boy and girl. (RELATED: ‘Male Pregnancy’ Makes Debut At Fashion Show)

“I wanted Muchache to have new values like sustainability, local production, and artisanal skills. These are emotional, one-size-fits-all leisure clothes,” Pons told Vogue. The designer also noted that he saw a gap in the market for gender neutral clothes motivating him to create the collection. (RELATED: Male Models Wear Provocative Corsets At Paris Fashion Show)

“I believe I am setting the trend and raising the benchmark for the clothing of the future. In the past, fashion referred to garments that only really flattered people of a certain age, gender, and body shape,” Pons told Vogue. “My garments have the adaptability to flatter virtually anybody. They can become part of the aura of the person wearing them, so, in a way, they have more soul. Muchache clothes do not flatter your ego, but rather your soul; they have an ethereal quality.” (RELATED: Fashion Shows Get Even Weirder, This Time With Severed Heads [PHOTOS])

Other fashion designers revamped the use of gender in clothes in June. Fashion designer Xander Zhou debuted male pregnancy on the London runway. Maison Margiela’s John Galliano put male models in provocative corsets during Paris Fashion Week. Scottish fashion designer Charles Jeffrey put men in hoop skirts for his fashion show.
