U.K. law enforcement has reportedly identified the suspects who may have carried out the Novichok attack on a Russian ex-spy and his daughter in March.
British news service Press Association reported Thursday that police had pinpointed the suspects based on information from “a source close to the investigation.”
The suspects are a group of Russians who tried to murder ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the southern British city of Salisbury. It is unclear how many suspects have been identified. (RELATED: ‘Disgrace’: Trump Confronts Turkey’s Erdogan Over Jailed American Pastor)
Police determined the suspects by scouring closed-circuit television footage, said the source, according to the Guardian.
Skripal and his daughter survived the Novichok attack and have been released from the hospital, but a couple in a nearby town was not so lucky.
Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess fell ill on June 30 after being exposed to Novichok in Amesbury, England, reported The Guardian. Sturgess died on July 8 after being exposed to 10 times the amount of the dangerous nerve agent that the Skripals were exposed to, reported the Guardian. Rowley has regained consciousness but is still recovering.
Investigators have a working theory that the Novichok that took Sturgess’ life was in a perfume bottle discarded somewhere near Salisbury, and Sturgess sprayed it on her skin, reported the Guardian citing the source used by the Press Association.
