The prime minister of the Czech Republic criticized the European Union over its “unworkable” migration strategy Thursday.
Andrej Babiš, 63, the Czech politician, said that the EU should focus on protecting its borders and provide aid to refugees’ home countries in dealing with the migration crisis, he told Financial Times in an interview Thursday.
Babiš also said that the EU should create “disembarkation platforms” outside of Europe to rescue migrants stranded on the sea, according to Radio Praha. (RELATED: ‘Czech Trump’ Wins Election By Wide Margin)
“We cannot accept all the migrants from the planet. If you had the centres inside Europe, then who will decide where these people will go? Who will give them asylum?” Babiš told the Financial Times. (RELATED: ‘Czech Trump’ Named Prime Minister, Immediately Goes After Illegal Immigration)
“We have to send a message: now, it’s over. We have to make a deal, like [we did] with Turkey, with north African countries, like Libya and Tunisia, and then we have to help these people in their respective countries, like in Syria, Nigeria or others. This should be the way to solve this problem,” he added.
Babiš will also meet with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to discuss illegal migration, he said to reporters at the Senate Wednesday, Radio Praha added.
