United States Border Patrol Chief Agent Rodolfo Karisch told the House Homeland Security subcommittee that President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to the border has had a positive impact in their fight to keep Americans safe on Tuesday.

“I think people seem to look at this as simply an immigration matter, which it’s not, you’re looking at still a war on terror that we’re fighting. You’ve got guns coming across the border, you’ve got cash, you’ve got people, you’ve got violence down there, so any assistance we can get down there is welcomed,” Karisch stated.

The border “is a national security that we all have to apply resources to and I’m grateful for the coordination and effort that has gone on with the guard,” he continued.

As the issue of immigration has heated up, the president has continued to express his support for the law enforcement officials at the border.

“The number of illegal border crossers dropped [from a] 40 to a 45-year low. A four-decade low. That’s not a coincidence. That’s because this president let ICE and the border patrol do their job,” former acting ICE Director Thomas Homan said on Fox News earlier this month.
