The anti-borders activists camped outside a federal government office in Portland may detest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, but they’ve adopted a major one — building a border wall.

Since June, activists in the so-called Occupy ICE protest group have been constructing a tent city across the street from the Portland field office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The camp has become a base of operations for protesters who’ve managed to force the office to shut down on multiple occasions.

The protest began in response to the Trump administration’s policy of separating illegal immigrant families while prosecuting adults for unlawful entry. It has since morphed into a broader demonstration against the U.S. immigration system in general, with protesters advocating for open borders and the dismantling of ICE, the government’s main immigration law enforcement agency.  (RELATED: Portland Food Cart That Helps The Homeless Shut Down After Alleged Harassment From Occupy ICE Protesters)

When it comes to building a barrier to keep out unwanted visitors, however, the Occupy ICE protesters and Trump appear to be on the same page. As Portland police prepared to evict the protesters on Wednesday morning, they hastily erected a wall of crates, tarps and furniture around their camp.

Independent journalist Andy Ngo, who followed police as they posted eviction notices inside the camp, documented the improvised border barrier:

Although most of the protesters dispersed after police announced the eviction operation, some hardliners remained inside the protective barricades as authorities surrounded the camp. Portland police say they are prepared to arrest the holdouts and charge them with “erecting permanent or temporary structures on public property or public rights of way.”
