New York congressional candidate and Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says her underdog Democratic primary win in June means “things are maybe still possible in America.”

Ocasio-Cortez made the comment during an interview for the podcast “Pod Save America” earlier this week. Ocasio-Cortez was asked about her meteoric rise in the democratic party.

“What do you think is driving that interest?” the interviewer asked.

Ocasio-Cortez said, “Lots of everyday people across the country have been frustrated with our politics,” noting that she herself has taken no lobbyist money. Ocasio-Cortez then talked about her win, saying it inspired people.

“There are certain aspects about my win,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I defeated not just a ten-term incumbent but was outspent ten-to-one and we still won.”

Speaking of her win, Ocasio-Cortez said, “OK, things are maybe still possible in America.”

In the same interview, Ocasio-Cortez stated incorrectly that the “upper middle class does not exist anymore in America.” Ocasio-Cortez makes factually incorrect and false economic statements with regularity. She had multiple claims listed at “pants on fire” by PolitiFact.
