New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running for reelection against actress Cynthia Nixon, said on Wednesday that America was “never that great.”

Cuomo said during a livestream on his website that “we are not going to make America great again.”

“It was never that great,” he said, referencing Trump’s “MAGA” slogan. “We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone … and every woman is making her full contribution.”

Cuomo also gave a shoutout to Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters during the livestream, calling her a “great spokesperson.”

A recent RealClearPolitics polling average has Cuomo ahead of Nixon in the gubernatorial race by 33.5 percentage points. The pair will debate at Hofstra University on August 29.
