A California man was arrested after being found with 800 pounds of lemons allegedly stolen from a nearby farm in the back of his car.

The deputies were investigating related agricultural thefts from farms when they stopped Fierros’s car by a traffic light in Thermal, California. The deputies found several huge bags of lemons inside the vehicle, according to a news release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s’ Office.

“Thermal Station Deputies, assigned to the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team, continued their investigation into recent agricultural thefts from the farming communities of Thermal, Mecca and Oasis,” wrote Sgt. Chris Frederick in the news release.

“The lemons were confiscated. The deputies are continuing their investigation into reports of recent agricultural thefts in the area,” he added.

California Penal Code states that the stealing of agricultural products is considered “grand theft” when the price of the different types of fruit, including citruses, exceeds $250.

Fierros was then booked at the Indio Jail.
