CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said President Donald Trump’s Monday tweet about Attorney General Jeff Sessions may be an “impeachable offense.”
Trump tweeted about two investigations against GOP Reps. Chris Collins of New York and Duncan Hunter of California and blamed Sessions and the Justice Department for not wrapping up the probes sooner. (RELATED: CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin Shocked By Trump’s Steady Approval Numbers)
Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department. Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff……

“You know, this tweet alone may be an impeachable offense,” Toobin said on “New Day” Tuesday. “This is such a disgrace. This is so contrary to the traditions of the Department of Justice.”
Toobin said he was formerly an assistant U.S. attorney and claimed if he had exhibited the same partisan behavior, he would’ve been “suspended or fired.” He also said the tweet was an “insult” to the hard-working people who serve in the DOJ.
“I used to be lowly assistant US Attorney. If I went to my supervisor and said, you know, we shouldn’t indict or investigate a member of the president’s party because he’s a member of the president’s party, I probably would have been suspended if not fired,” he said.
“The sentiment at the core of that tweet is so contrary to the mission of the Department of Justice and it’s such an insult to the decent people who work there. The career prosecutors who work through Democratic and Republican administrations,” Toobin concluded. “We wear ourselves out being outraged at things Donald Trump says. But this one really is different, because it is such an affront to the values of Justice Department.”
