Bella Thorne Wants To Leave #MeToo Movement Over Asia Argento Allegations

Actress Bella Thorne wants to leave the #MeToo movement after Italian actress Asia Argento denied sexually assaulting a minor, she tweeted Wednesday.

Thorne, also a singer, said she was “disgusted” after Argento claimed that actor Jimmy Bennett, then 17, sexually assaulted her, Fox News reported. Argento, then 37, was accused of sexually assaulting Bennett in a hotel room in 2013, leading her to pay the actor $380,000 to stay mum about the incident, The New York Times reported.

Argento was previously at the forefront of the #MeToo movement after accusing Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of raping her in 1997, according to an article published by The New Yorker in October 2017.

“I’m disgusted. No longer want to be apart of the #metoo movement. Jimmy was a young kid. This is gross,” she tweeted, sharing Deadline’s article about Argento.

Argento denied the sexual allegations after The New York Times broke the story. She later claimed that she paid Bennett the money since he was in a financial struggle. However, texts revealed Argento admitted to a friend that she allegedly slept with Bennett but did not know he was underage. Four photos were also released, one of which shows Bennett and the Italian actress lying in bed together, TMZ reported.

Bennett played Argento’s son in the 2004 film “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things.”
