New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo spent nearly 19 times more than opponent Cynthia Nixon over a period of three weeks as the Democratic gubernatorial primary is on the horizon.

Cuomo spent $8.5 million for campaigns over the past three weeks whereas Nixon spent a little more that $450,000 for the three weeks, according to the state’s Board of Elections, Newsday reported Wednesday. Cuomo has spent three times more for the 2018 race than he did in 2014 in the same time period, when he was running against Fordham University professor Zephyr Teachout.

Cuomo spent $3 million on TV ads and gave $2.5 million to the New York State Democratic Committee since the middle of August, according to Newsday.

“The governor has proudly delivered unprecedented support to elect the entire Democratic ticket — proven leaders Cuomo, [New York Lieutenant Gov. Kathy] Hochul, and [New York City Public Advocate Letitia] James — on Thursday, Sept. 13 because he believes this is the strongest possible team to fight back against [President Donald] Trump’s destructive agenda,” a Cuomo spokeswoman said to The Daily Caller News Foundation. “The governor will continue to lead the way with his aggressive coordinated campaign as we work to take back the U.S. House, state Senate and build the party’s infrastructure moving forward.”

The spokeswoman from Cuomo’s administration added that the governor spent six figures on Republican gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro ads to lay groundwork for the general election. (RELATED: Andrew Cuomo Called ICE Agents Thugs, And Former ICE Acting Director Homan Won’t Stand For It)

Cuomo led Nixon 59 to 23 percent, a July Quinnipiac University poll found. He also outdid Molinaro 57 to 31 percent.
