President Donald Trump postponed a scheduled meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Thursday as confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh continue.

“The President spoke with Rod Rosenstein a few minutes ago and they plan to meet next week. They do not want to do anything to interfere with the hearing,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a Thursday statement.

Trump indicated in a press conference Wednesday evening that he may delay the scheduled meeting because of the ongoing hearing and his busy schedule.

Kavanaugh is awaiting to testify after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor accusing the Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault during their teenage years.

Rosenstein’s position became precarious Friday after alleged comments of his from May 2017 surfaced in The New York Times. Rosenstein allegedly floated the idea of wearing a wire into the Oval Office and attempting to wrangle a cabal of cabinet officials to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from office.

Trump told reporters Wednesday Rosenstein called him to deny the allegations in TheNYT and said he would prefer to keep him in office as special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe continues.
