MSNBC host Joe Scarborough went on a rant Monday against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for blocking Judge Merrick Garland from the Supreme Court, complete with references to used car salesmen and leprechauns.
Former President Barack Obama nominated Garland to the Supreme Court in March 2016, after the death of former Justice Antonin Scalia. McConnell blocked Garland from a vote in the Senate and said the next president should be the one to fill the seat. President Donald Trump eventually nominated Justice Neil Gorsuch, who was confirmed in 2017 by a final vote of 54-45.
“It’s like a used car salesman,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe.” “This car only has three tires on it. No, no, it’s got four tires on it. You’re not listening to me. It’s got four tires.” (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Says Media Carried Out Biased Hit Job On Brett Kavanaugh)
“Now they’re moving the goal post to different parties pretty soon … I suppose if it serves him, there will be a leprechaun rule,” he continued.

“Oh, no we can do it if there’s not a leprechaun who’s a vice president, it’s just — he’s changing history, he’s adjusting facts to suit his purposes today. But, of course, the great concern is the long-term ramifications even when Democrats get back in power,” he said.
Scarborough suggested Democrats will take advantage of this escalation, to push a more partisan agenda if they get back in power.
“Perhaps it goes, you know, [former Sen.] Harry Reid changed, moved the goal posts. Now you have Mitch McConnell moving the goal posts and the question is what comes next?” Scarborough said. “How undignified can this process become?”
