The Media Ran With The Allegations Against Brett Kavanaugh Without Any Corroborating Evidence

Media outlets published numerous stories about the allegations levied against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh despite there being no corroborating evidence to support the claims.

The Kavanaugh saga began when Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s anonymous letter, alleging that Kavanaugh assaulted her back in the 1980s, was leaked and published. Her letter made the allegation without any proof, but that didn’t stop the media from reporting it with fervor.

Then, Deborah Ramirez, the second accuser, brought forth claims that Kavanaugh exposed himself in front of her at a party and thrust his genitals in her face. Ramirez’ claims had even less substance, but that didn’t stop the news from reporting it. Even the New York Times refused to run the story — citing a lack of corroboration from the people they reached out to. The third allegations were made by Julie Swetnick, who claimed that Kavanaugh participated in drugging and gang-raping women back when he was in high school. She later changed her story in an interview with NBC News. Despite those contradictions, a number of outlets still ran wild with these allegations.
