Rap mogul and self-described “free thinker” Kanye West delivered a fierce defense of the Second Amendment during a wide-ranging Oval Office conversation on Thursday. “The problem,” he said, “is illegal guns. Not legal guns.”

West began by speaking about building factories and educational facilities in his hometown of Chicago when a reporter asked what he thought should be done about gun violence.

“I think it would be cool if they were Trump factories, because he’s a master of industry; he’s a builder. A mix of education that empowers people and gives them modern information. Some people say this kid has [attention deficit disorder] — this kid has ADD. He don’t have ADD. School is boring. We need to make it more exciting. We have to mix curriculums.”

As West paused to take a breath, a reporter asked, “What about gun violence — with all the debate about the Second Amendment?”

West interrupted, saying adamantly, “The problem is illegal guns, illegal guns are the problem. Not … not legal guns. We have the right to bear arms.”
