Musician Kanye West expounded at length on how powerful he feels while wearing President Donald Trump’s signature campaign hat reading “Make America Great Again,” in an Oval Office meeting Thursday.
“They tried to scare me to not wear this hat, but this hat, it gives me power, in a way,” Kanye said, adding, “it was something about when I put this hat on, it made me feel like super man. That’s my favorite super hero. You make a super hero cape as a guy who looks up to you and looks up to American industry guys.”
West has made a point of wearing the hat publicly and displaying it on social media, igniting a media sensation. The rap superstar was in the Oval Office to advocate for criminal justice reform during lunch with Trump, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and former football star Jim Brown.
“The discussion will be centered on President Trump’s historic work to benefit all Americans such as urban revitalization, the creation of Opportunity Zones, new workforce training programs, record highs in African American employment, the creation of manufacturing jobs, ideas from his meeting with African American pastors, potential future clemencies, and addressing the massive violent crime surge in Chicago,” White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said ahead of the meeting.
