The New York Giants suffered another crushing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, and naturally some fans are asking the seemingly eternal question: what can be done?

Giants Wire writer Dan Benton has an answer, or at least a suggestion.

Making the argument that Eli Manning is more done than an overcooked T-Bone at your local Dave And Busters, Benton poses the not-so-hypothetical question, “What about Colin Kaepernick?” (RELATED: Eli Manning Reacts To Criticism With Laughable Comment)

And he’s not the only one asking the question. ESPN’s Max Kellerman made a similar point on an episode of “First Take” this week, calling Kaepernick both “dynamic” and “starting caliber.”

“The New York football Giants need to sign Colin Kaepernick right now. They need a dynamic quarterback, a starting-caliber NFL quarterback which Kaepernick is to pair with the most talented wideout I have ever seen in Odell Beckham, and the most talented running back prospect I’ve ever seen in Saquon Barkley. Not to mention Evan Engram when he comes back,” he said in a fiery monologue at the roundtable.

New York Daily News writer Chuck Modiano took a similar stance this week.

“Don’t sign Kaepernick to make money,” he writes in part. “Don’t sign him just because you would be a hero to millions of New Yorkers and flip a chunk of the Jets fan base overnight. That would be for the wrong reasons. Do it because Kaepernick will make your football team a whole lot better.”

It’s not an entirely terrible idea. Kaepernick is young still, he’s already got the experience of a few seasons under his belt, and he generates a ton of buzz. Sure, it may not all be positive buzz. But Odell’s buzz hasn’t exactly been positive of late, either. And the Giants are a tough New York team. They can handle a little flack.

Of course, these are all opinions and nobody really knows what’s going on inside the Giants clubhouse. But it is a thought to chew on as we enter NFL Week 6…
