Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton no longer has her security clearance, according to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, after she asked for it to be revoked.
Clinton lost her clearance back on August 30, according to a letter Grassley released on Friday from Charles Faulkner, the acting assistant secretary of legislative affairs. The letter was dated September 21 and was in response to Grassley’s request for an update on the ongoing investigation.
In addition to Clinton, five of her staffers also lost their clearances in September. Cheryl Mills, who was one of Clinton’s top aides, was among them. The other four people’s names were redacted in the letter Grassley released.
The revocation of her security clearances stems from her mishandling of classified material on her personal email servers. The FBI assessed that it was “reasonably likely” that a foreign entity was able to hack her servers.
Grassley’s press release about the update also said, “Documents containing classified material have been sent to the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and all valid security incidents have been added to the security file for some individuals. Department authorities are continuing to review tens of thousands of documents for classified content.”

In that letter, he wrote, “Any other government workers who engaged in such serious offenses would, at a minimum, have their clearances suspended pending an investigation. The failure to do so has given the public the impression that Secretary Clinton and her associates received special treatment,” Grassley said in the letter.
