First lady Melania Trump revealed that she was unhappy with President Trump’s zero tolerance policy for people who were apprehended trying to illegally enter the country during an interview with ABC’s Tom Llamas that aired on Friday.

“What did you learn at the border?” Llamas questioned.
The first lady answered, “I met with the border patrol agents, and they’re doing a great job. And after my trip, I asked them how I can help reunite the children and parents.”
“You know it was under your husband’s policy, the zero tolerance policy, that these families were separated that enforcement. Is it somewhere where you disagreed with him?” Llamas asked.
“Yes, and I let him know. I didn’t know that policy would come out. I was blindsided by it. I told him at home and I said to him that, ‘I feel that’s unacceptable’ and he felt the same,” Melania Trump responded.
The issue of separating children from their families was in the spotlight last spring. The president blamed the policy on Democrats, and the Democrats blamed it on him. However, the directive comes from the president’s zero-tolerance policy. Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled out the enforcement strategy last April instructing federal prosecutors in border states to aggressively pursue violations of 8 USC 1325, the federal statute covering improper entry by an alien.
The interview took place during the first lady’s trip to Africa over the past week. The interview ranged in topics discussing everything from the #MeToo movement to her husband’s alleged infidelities. (RELATED: Melania Supports Due Process, Says Female Accusers Need ‘Hard Evidence’)
