MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough claimed President Donald Trump never wanted to serve as commander in chief and said he won’t seek re-election in 2020.

During an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Thursday, Scarborough was asked if anyone will step up to challenge Trump before 2020. (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Says Trump Made Million Of Off Saudis And Accuses Him Of Being ‘For Sale’)

“I’ll say it again: I don’t think that they’re going to have to step up to challenge Donald Trump because I don’t think Donald Trump’s going to run for re-election,” he said.

Scarborough said Trump’s chief concern is making money and predicted that the president will ultimately “cash out” and leave politics.

“He didn’t want to be elected for president. He didn’t think he was going to be elected president. He didn’t even think he was going to get the Republican nomination. He’s going to cash out,” he continued.

Colbert said:

I think that would be a smart thing for him to do. I’ll tell you why I don’t want it to happen is that I think it’s important that the voters of America have an opportunity to say, oops, my bad, we made a mistake there and correct themselves and if Donald Trump doesn’t run, he takes away that corrective action of history and therefore, his presidency is whole and un-judged if he just doesn’t run again. I fixed it. I made it great again, goodbye.

“That’s the thing. He won’t do that. He’ll get money from the Saudis. He’s right now proving to the Saudis that he’ll be their lap dog. He’ll make money from Putin after he gets out,” Scarborough added. “Donald Trump is all about money. It’s what drives him.”
