Patrick Mahomes is no stranger to greatness.

The 23-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is lighting it up this NFL season; he holds the record for most touchdowns thrown in the first eight games of a season and has generally dominated every team he’s met since August. No stranger to elite athletic talent, Patrick Mahomes is the son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes. His upbringing, as one may suspect, pretty much revolved around sports. He pays tribute to his dad by wearing his MLB jersey before games and often thanks his parents for helping him get to where he is today.

But a recent video from Mahomes’ youth basketball team shows the kid was pretty much destined for greatness from a young age.

Here’s a home video of him when he was just eight years old, making a borderline impossible shot right before the buzzer:

I get that Patrick Mahomes is a phenom and everything, but I can’t help but think about his dad when I see this stuff. Imagine how proud he must be, and how much work he probably put into his son to ensure he’d be the best possible athlete out there.

When your kid is drilling buzzer beaters at age eight, and he got half his genes from an MLB ace, it’s pretty much your moral duty to work with that kid until he makes the NFL. And that seems to be exactly what Pat Mahomes did.

Talk about passing the torch. This is such a feel-good story, I think I might be sick.
