The 2018 midterm election saw Democrats regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives and Republicans maintain a majority in the U.S. Senate.

In the most recent totals, Democrats gained 28 seats in the House and Republicans gained two seats in the Senate, with some crucial races still too close to call.

Democrats retaking control of the House was a move expected by the majority of pollsters. President Donald Trump called House Minority Leader Pelosi Tuesday night to congratulate her on her win. However, come Wednesday morning, Trump was sending a clear message to Pelosi that if the House begins rampant investigations into his administration, that “Two can play that game!”

“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, at the Senate level,” Trump said in a tweet. “Two can play that game!”

The President continued, saying that Pelosi “deserves” to be Speaker of the House and that it will be good for GOP pickups in the House.

“In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats. If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes,” Trump said, “She has earned this great honor!”

Electing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to Speaker is not a sure thing. Many in her caucus have not come out in full support of her speakership. Democratic Reps. Kathleen Rice of New York, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Filemon Vela of Texas and Tim Ryan of Ohio have all called for Pelosi to relinquish her leadership role. Rep. Jim Jordan wasted no time, announcing his run for minority leader to combat Pelosi Tuesday morning.
