House Majority Whip Steve Scalise said on “Fox & Friends” Friday that Democratic candidates in the midterms were able to flip their House districts because they would not support House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“I think you’re seeing a growing opposition to Nancy Pelosi within her own Democrat ranks,” Scalise said. (RELATED: Michelle Malkin Mocks Pelosi For Pandering To Al Sharpton)

Scalise said various Democrats ran on a platform of being pro-life and pro-Second Amendment, but also made it clear they would not be supporting Pelosi for speaker of the House of Representatives.

“You saw it during the campaign,” he continued. “There were a lot of people who flipped seats from Republican to Democrat, that ran not saying that they wanted to resist the president and to impeach the president. They ran practically saying they’re pro-life and pro-gun and against Nancy Pelosi.”

Scalise predicted many close and important votes coming out of the House and said the new freshman members will have to show their cards after they’re forced to pick a side.

“There are going to be some important votes that come up to tell whether or not they’re going to keep their word. And a lot of people are going to be watching,” he added.

Host Brian Kilmeade asked if the GOP would rally votes for Pelosi to make sure she retains her position and Scalise said he doesn’t want to see Republicans interfere in the process.

“I wouldn’t want to see us get in the way of the internal deliberations that are very important for them to have,” he said.
