Week 12 in the SEC came and went with very little fanfare.

Perhaps the most exciting event in the SEC this weekend was the first half between Alabama and The Citadel. (RELATED: SEC Week 12 Preview: Icing On The Cupcakes)

Cupcake week” hit a bit of a snag in Tuscaloosa this weekend, as the top-ranked Crimson Tide had some trouble with The Citadel’s triple-option attack. In fact, the game was even tied 10-10 at halftime, a score that momentarily sent shock waves throughout the college football world.

And, that was about all the excitement there was in the SEC this weekend, unless you consider an overtime game between Ole Miss and Vanderbilt exciting.

This was simply a warm-up week for the big rivalry games that are set to take place on Thanksgiving weekend.

Even the league’s premiere game was a dud, with Missouri slaughtering Tennessee 50-17, the exact same score they beat the Volunteers by a season ago. It’s clear that Jeremy Pruitt’s rebuilding process in Knoxville still has a long way to go. However, if the Volunteers win next week against Vanderbilt, that would get the Vols to a bowl game, making this a successful inaugural season for Pruitt. (RELATED: ESPN Sideline Reporter Gets Jacked Up By Two Players. Nick Fitzgerald finished his Mississippi State home career in style, accounting for five total touchdowns in his final game in Davis-Wade Stadium. It’s been a tough year for Fitzgerald, but he has appeared to turn the corner late in his senior season.

One has to wonder how Joe Moorhead’s first season with the Bulldogs would have turned out had Fitzgerald been healthy all season. However, it was good to see an SEC legend get the send-off he deserved.

So, cupcake week in the SEC was uneventful, and the rest of college football couldn’t pick up the slack. It’s a good thing they won’t have to next week.

Next weekend is arguably the best weekend of the year. You have the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa, “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” between the hedges, the Florida-Florida State matchup in Tallahassee, and South Carolina-Clemson game in Clemson. There’s nothing like college football rivalries.

So, sit back, have a few beers, eat some leftovers, and enjoy the traditions, pageantry, and even the hate.

It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year.
