The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that they are benching quarterback Blake Bortles, and will start Cody Kessler in his place against the Colts.

I’m going to go on the record right now stating this is a poor decision. Yes, Bortles has had a very rough year. There’s no question about that. He has struggled mightily as the Jaguars are only 3-8, and he’s thrown only 13 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.

There had been some speculation earlier in the year that a benching might be coming down the pipeline, and now we’re here.

Look, if Kessler was starting quarterback quality, then he’d be starting in the damn NFL. He’s a solid backup, but there’s no reality where he is a better option than Blake Bortles under center.

This might have something to do with the fact they don’t owe Bortles more money after this year if he’s healthy when they cut him.

Whatever happens to Bortles at the end of this season, I think there’s a hundred percent chance some other team will take him in a heartbeat. (RELATED: Here Are The Best Moments From Week 12 Of The NFL Season)

This is just a minor bump in the road to his Hall of Fame induction speech.
