Former Seattle Seahawks star and Super Bowl champion Brandon Browner was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday.
The former Seattle Seahawks star — an original member of the famed Legion of Boom defense — was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in La Verne, CA on July 8 and allegedly chased her, dragged her and then smothered her in a carpet.

On Tuesday, the 34-year-old appeared in court where he pled no contest to 1 count of attempted murder and 2 counts of willful child endangerment. In exchange, the remaining charges (robbery, burglary and false imprisonment) were dropped.
That is no joke of a prison sentence. He’s going to serve nearly a decade behind bars before the time he gets out of the California correctional system.
He was taken into custody back in July, and it seemed from the jump that he was likely going to do some serious time if convicted, given the severity of the charges. People don’t generally just go home after being convicted of attempted murder. That’s the kind of felony that gets you shipped off the to the penitentiary. Imagine going from winning two Super Bowls to serving eight years behind bars. I’m not sure I can think of two polar opposite ends of spectrum. What would ever drive somebody that’s been handed the opportunities Browner had to ever commit such serious crimes?
It just doesn’t make sense at all.
