Hollywood has had an incredible year when it comes to making money at the box office.

The Hollywood Reporter reported the following:

Combined ticket sales could approach $12 billion, even without a year-end ‘Star Wars’ movie.

The domestic box office continues to defy expectations, with 2018 revenue hitting $11 billion on Tuesday and on its way to finishing the year with a record-shattering haul well north of the $11.4 billion collected in 2016.

With 19 days let go, 2018 revenue is running 10 percent ahead of 2017, which collected $11.1 billion all in, and more than 6 percent ahead of 2016’s record-setting bounty, according to Comscore.

My friends, that is a whole hell of a lot of money. Nearing the $12 billion mark is impressive as hell. You know what else this tells me? It tells me that as much as people want you to believe middle Americans have shunned Hollywood, the numbers would appear to tell a very different story.

Look, I think Hollywood is full of problems, but that’s not going to stop me from seeing movies just about whenever I want to. I couldn’t care less if some actor or actress is out in the streets smashing Trump and his policies or agreeing with them.

I go to movies to be entertained by actors I like, such as Matthew McConaughey. I don’t really care what people do outside of the movies I’m paying to see. (RELATED: Matthew McConaughey‘s New Movie Looks Like It Could Be His Best Ever [VIDEO])

The fact Hollywood is having cash poured down from the sky is all I need to know. Movies are as popular as ever.

Sound off in the comments with your favorite film from the past year, and movies you’re looking to forward to in 2019. I’m in on McConaughey’s “Serenity.” It should be great.
