Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is headed to prison for eight months this year, but his friends says he’s holding up pretty well.

“The Situation,” 36, was sentenced to eight months of federal prison and two years of supervised release for tax evasion in October. Sorrentino pled guilty to the counts, admitting he falsified around $9 million worth of tax returns. (RELATED: ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Is Going To Prison For This Reason)

But before Sorrentino heads off to the clink, his friend and former “Jersey Shore” costar Vinny Guadagnino updated reporters on how his mental state is.

“Mike is doing great, I’m not even saying that,” Guadagnino explained. “He said, ‘I must be an alien right now, because I don’t feel anything.’ Anyone else, including myself, would be having crazy depression. But he knows that all the trials and troubles and tribulation that he’s been through has gotten him to this amazing moment. So it’s kind of ironic and bittersweet that he is such a strong person because he has to go away. They all kind of lent themselves to each other and he’ll be okay.”

Sorrentino’s career has had its ups and downs. He was arguably the biggest star on MTV’s reality show “Jersey Shore,” but became addicted to painkillers after the series finished. He’s been to rehab to get sober — and did — right before getting engaged to his now-wife Lauren Sorrentino.

It sounds like he’s serious about turning his life around, and maybe this prison stint is just a bump in the road.
