Former Chair of the Republican National Committee Micheal Steele criticized President Donald Trump’s record-breaking speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Monday morning.
“What has manifested at CPAC is a new form of idolatry. Donald Trump is the new golden calf,” Steele asserted during his interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“He is the thing that they come and bob for,” he continued, “and he is the thing that they come and offer up their — you know — their future political support when they show up and stand there and applaud for two hours and support the nastiness toward a hero like John McCain.”
The president spoke at CPAC for roughly two hours Saturday and addressed nearly every issue possible, taking time to address the progressive “New Green Deal,” as well as the Mueller probe, as well as the investigations currently underway in the US House of Representatives. “Unfortunately, you put the wrong people in a couple of positions and you leave people for a long time that shouldn’t be there and all of a sudden they’re trying to take you out with bullshit,” the president said Saturday during his speech.
Trump said a lot on Saturday, but it was conservative commentator Michelle Malkin that addressed Former Senator John McCain in her speech Friday.
“Sanctuary cities have metastasized and both parties are to blame,” Malkin said. “And yes, I’m looking at you, retired Paul Ryan; and yes, I’m looking at you, Mitch McConnell; and yes, I’m looking at you, Bush family; and yes, I’m looking at you, the ghost of John McCain.”
