The Cowboys are ready to pay quarterback Dak Prescott, but it has to be a deal that helps the team.
According to Yahoo Sports, team CEO Stephen Jones said during a Monday appearance on 103.3 ESPN radio that Prescott’s new deal had to be “team friendly.”

“He certainly deserves to be paid fairly. He’s a fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State, as we all know. He’s never made a lot of money, per se, with his contract. Certainly deserves to be paid and be paid fairly,” Jones added when explaining the situation with the young quarterback.

The Cowboys are absolutely going to pay Prescott. No question about it, but I’m welling to bet they structure the deal in a way that limits guaranteed money to the first couple years.
Prescott is solid, but it’s still too early to know how great he’ll be long-term. If they pour a ton of cash into him and he starts to fail, then they’ve financially crippled the team.
This isn’t Russell Wilson we’re talking about here. It’s a guy who has yet to prove he can produce when it counts deep in the postseason.
It’ll be fascinating to see what kind of check Jerry Jones and his organization write. I wouldn’t bet on it shaking up the market too much, but it’s still going to be a for a ton of money.
