Johnny Manziel is returning to Texas as he awaits another shot in the NFL.

The Texas A&M Heisman winner had been in the Alliance of American Football, but the league was shuttered after he only spent two weeks there. Now, he has some time to kill as he waits for whatever he does next, and he’s going to spend it around his family. (RELATED: Alliance Of American Football Suspending Operations)

Some things never change

Manziel wrote the following on Instagram Friday when explaining what he’ll do next:

When you come from where I came from this moment and my time in college football was all I ever aspired to be as a kid. It was my dream, it was my life to make it to that stage and by the grace of god and some amazing teammates and coaches it was accomplished. For everyone asking me what the next move is and all the crazy assumptions out there, I’ll be the one to set it straight. I have one single goal right now and that is to get back to the NFL. Until that call comes or the opportunity presents itself I will be working every single day to be prepared. I plan on spending time with my family in Texas and getting back around the University I love with all of my heart. Thank you for all the support over the years it truly means the world #Thanks&GigEm

Obviously, Manziel can go to the XFL in 2020, but there’s no telling whether or not he’s going to get another shot in the NFL. (RELATED: XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck Discusses Johnny Manziel Potentially Joining The League)

The fact he’s going back to Texas to be around the Aggies and his family is a great decision. He needs to be around a strong support system, and his family and school with provide both.

It truly is a shame the AAF didn’t work out much better. It looked like he was in prime game shape, and he looked very solid at times.

Unfortunately, the league was run like a joke, and came crashing to the ground after about two months of regular season play.

It was a disaster on every single level.

I suppose that he’ll now wait to see if he’s shown enough for a team to take a chance on him. Otherwise, he’s bound to be the face of the XFL in 2020.
