Quote of the Day:

“I think this is a very strategic, smart appeal to moderates who may need some reminding of what it sounds like when a Democrat talks positively about God.”

— CNN’s S.E. Cupp on Pete Buttigieg going after Veep Mike Pence on his views on Buttigieg’s sexual orientation. Buttigieg is Episcopalian. Cupp appeared on CNN Friday afternoon. Pence became an evangelical, born-again Christian while in college and says he has a right to his religious beliefs. Pence told CNN, “My wife and I are Bible-believing Christians.”

Mood: “I know it’s a subtle point, but I never called him a journalist, and in fact, I don’t think he is. But what happens to him now may have a big effect on journalists. (I’m just gonna say this over and over and over.)” — Margaret Sullivan, WaPo media writer, on Julian Assange.

Cassandra Fairbanks, a reporter for The Gateway Pundit, agrees: “Beyond the obvious dangers to free press — I care very deeply about what happens to him.”

So does Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii): “The arrest of #JulianAssange is meant to send a message to all Americans and journalists: be quiet, behave, toe the line. Or you will pay the price.”

Here’s something gross… that Assange may have done on Ecuador embassy walls…. Here.

Note to readers: This is the second installment of The Mirror: Enemy Edition. It’s intended for anyone who has blocked me on social media. Examples include: President Trump‘s arch-nemesis Rosie O’Donnell, professional journo-hater Alec Baldwin, podcaster Dan Bongino and WaPo‘s Wesley Lowrey, to give you a sense. Some blockers I know and the feeling is quite mutual — so, yeah, you guys can go to hell. (Not referring to you, Wes.) In other cases I have no clue why the person has decided to shut me out of their feeds and I have no feeling about him or her whatsoever. As always, I won’t ignore the sentiment of the day. So not everyone quoted in the Enemy Edition is necessarily an enemy in the true sense of the word. Enjoy!

I discovered a new journalist who has blocked me. It’s Amanda Mull, a staff writer for The Atlantic. I’ve never interacted with her, so I have no idea why she’s blocked me. I’ve heard from a trusted source that her work is good, so I’m going to check it out.

The Observer: Journo spots Louis Vuitton on the Metro

“Seeing people in a lot of designer in a mundane setting is so unsettling. There was a guy on my train this morning in a full Louis Vuitton look and like buddy…where could you possibly be going in that at 9am.” — Amanda Mull, The Atlantic.

Reporter who wanted to pee on Bill Kristol’s salmon gets even more disgusting

“In the famously left wing media you can write a op-eds advocating for turning muslim weddings into bloodbaths forever but if you say human rights violators or war criminals deserve a pube on their salad it’s over the line.” — Luke O’Neil, freelancer, writer-at-large, Esquire. “Absolute brain genius move by the Globe to edit my story three times then take it down altogether and put up a note saying I’m not on staff instead of perhaps standing by a longtime contributor and siding with labor instead of bad faith critics who would hate them no matter what.”

As usual, Washingtonian‘s Ben Freed is not funny

“Everyone who’s hating on the black hole photo can get sucked into the singularity.” — Ben Freed, Washingtonian.

Roger Stone is not happy with Alex Jones

“Roger Stone is mad at Alex Jones because Jones isn’t selling ‘Roger Stone Did Nothing Wrong’ T-shirts.” — Will Sommer, The Daily Beast.

Chris Megerian is a Washington reporter for the LA Times.

Erik Wemple’s wife writes about getting breast cancer

The obviously better reporter in the family is Mother Jones‘s Stephanie Mencimer. This week she writes about why she waited so long to get a mammogram and the perks of doing so. Here.

Reporters mock Joe Biden

Matt Viser, national political reporter, WaPo: “Joe Biden, asked what one thing he wishes people knew, says people should recognize how addictive pain killers are. ‘A little pain is not bad,’ he says.”

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes: “eeeeeeshhhh.”

Hayes taught second grade this week

“I got to give a guest lesson at my daughter’s second grade class where they’re learning about persuasive writing. Definitely introduced them to the concept of the hot take.” — Chris Hayes, MSNBC host.

Elaina Plott, a White House reporter for The Atlantic, takes a deep dive into Ivanka Trump. Reporter gets surprise interview with President Trump after months of asking to speak to Ivanka. The reporter also learned that Ivanka is best known for her “poise” and not having “a word or a hair” out of place.  Here.

WaPo food writer calls on journos to stop bitching about dumb press releases

“Dear journalists, Can we call for a moratorium on bitching about dumb press releases on social media? Yes, we’re deluged with emails daily, but sitting at a desk and reading a ham-handed story pitch is not, in the grand scheme of things, a heavy burden. Thank you.” — Tim Carman, food reporter, WaPo.

CNN’s Jim Acosta dunks on Trump

“Trump 2016: ‘I love Wikileaks.’
Trump 2019: ‘I know nothing about Wikileaks.'”

BloombergTV reporter insists Wendy Williams divorce is none of his business

“Twitter ‘news’ is so stupid. Who is deciding that my top story should be Wendy Williams divorce?
Her divorce (anyone’s divorce really) is none of my business. Why don’t social media platforms invest more in ACTUAL front pages or allow users to sort through policy news, etc.” — Kevin Cirilli, BloombergTV chief DC correspondent.
