Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum is ready to help rookie Dwayne Haskins as much as he can.

The Redskins traded for the former Vikings and Broncos player in the offseason, and then turned around to draft Haskins in the first round. If you thought there’d be some animosity, you’d be wrong.

“I’ve been in this situation before, so I’m going to come in and compete and competition makes all of us better. I hope I make him better and I think he’s going to come in and make me better, and that’s what helps the team is competition,” Keenum told reporter Monday, according to NFL.com.

Keenum seems like a smart guy, and I’m sure he’s smart enough to see the writing on the wall. The Redskins didn’t draft Haskins to sit on the bench. (RELATED: New York Giants Draft QB Daniel Jones, Pass On Dwayne Haskins)

They took him with the 15th overall pick to sling touchdown passes. Now, he might not start right away, but the Ohio State star will be on the field sooner than later.

Keenum’s role on the team going forward will be to tutor and provide mentorship for Haskins. Luckily, he’s been in the league for a long time, and he’s a solid leader.

The Redskins should consider themselves lucky to have a guy like Keenum helping develop Haskins.

I’m not a Redskins fan at all, but the future is bright. Hasksins is going to do big things in this league, and it doesn’t hurt having Keenum helping along the way.
