Legendary college football coach Nick Saban has high praise for Freddie Kitchens.

Kitchens, who coached at LSU with Saban, is entering his first year as the head coach of the Browns, and the Alabama leader think he’s going to do just fine. (RELATED: New York Giants Trade Odell Beckham Jr. To The Cleveland Browns)

Saban told the The Chronicle-Telegram the following about Kitchens and his potential, according to BrownsZone.com Sunday:

Yeah, because to me Freddie was a good teacher, he’s very smart, very bright about football and he’s the kind of person that I think people see he’s authentic in terms of how he comes across to people, players can trust him, believe in him. It’s no surprise to me, because he did a great job for us. I’m happy for him that he’s got the opportunity he’s got now, I think he’ll do a great job.

It’s never a bad sign when a guy like Nick Saban is in your corner. That man knows football better than just about everybody else on this planet. If he says somebody knows their stuff, then they almost certainly do.

The Browns rolled the dice on Kitchens. He has no previous head coaching experience, and there’s absolutely no guarantee this works at all.

However, fans of the Browns should at least feel a little better with Saban singing his praises. The Crimson Tide legend didn’t win six national championships by being a poor judge of talent.

He won all those rings because he knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s got excellent football judgment.

Apparently, Kitchens is a rising star in his mind.

We’ll have to wait and see what Kitchens can do with Baker Mayfield and the rest of the talented offense in Cleveland. If Saban is correct, then there’s a very bright future on the horizon for fans of the team.

Only time will tell, and you know I’ll be watching it all unfold with the rest of you.
