CNN White House reporter Betsy Klein used Twitter to share a touching letter from President Donald Trump and his wife, written to a “dear family friend” who “is battling brain cancer.”
“A personal note for a gesture that doesn’t often make it onto WH twitter but should be recognized,” Klein wrote. “A dear family friend is battling brain cancer — she received this letter from @realDonaldTrump and @flotus today and her mom says it brought her much joy after a very tough week.”

What could have been a unifying concept quickly turned into various criticisms of the president, his marriage and even first lady Melania Trump’s signature.

Imagine a world where our president extended such grace in all actions.
That old men don’t change is an observation and exaggeration, but there is not an actual rule preventing @realDonaldTrump from deciding to #BeBest. https://t.co/wadaXD6C7t

Director Robby Starbuck noticed and compiled several of the reactions into two tweets. They included speculation that President Trump tells his wife how to sign, criticisms of their marriage and one noted that former President Barack Obama wrote people letters, too.
“Wow… @betsy_klein tweeted about a sweet letter sent to a cancer patient from @FLOTUS & @realDonaldTrump and this is how the left responded to it,” Starbuck tweeted. “This kind moment should be something we unify around and root for.”

“We finally can answer the question: Would Democrats criticize President Trump even if he was doing something to help people with cancer?” Starbuck wrote.

The weirdness was enough for fellow CNN employee Kristen Holmes to vow never to read “comments on an uplifting tweet again.” (RELATED: CNN Wrote Over 20 Articles On Covington Catholic Students, Ignores Philly Muslim Children Chanting About Chopping Off Heads)
I’m never reading comments on an uplifting tweet again. Thinking of Lillie and sending positive energy and love to her and her family.
