NBC affiliate in Raleigh interviews ex-Sen. John Edwards
WRAL recently sat down with ex-Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.). The gist of the interview is that Edwards, 65, is making a comeback after a sex scandal destroyed his 2008 presidential campaign. He has partnered up and is running a personal injury law firm. The story says he has “quietly” resumed his legal career.
His campaign disintegrated after news surfaced that he had fathered a child with his campaign filmmaker, Reille Hunter, while his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, was dying of cancer. He also got in hot water for a few $400 haircuts, but he later repaid his campaign. The National Enquirer published news of the affair in October, 2007. Edward said the report was totally “made up.”
Edwards initially denied being the baby girl’s father. In January, 2008, Edwards suspended his presidential campaign. He ultimately admitted to the affair in August, 2008. He maintained, however, that some of the details in the National Enquirer story were wrong.
In 2010, he admitted the child was his.
“I think what I always wanted to do was big cases in a courtroom,” Edwards told WRAL. “I love being in a courtroom.”
Edwards is working with his daughter, Cate Edwards, which he says he enjoys.
His legal business partner is David Kirby, said Edwards can feel your pain. He sang Edwards’ praises, saying, “If you’re someone who has had something bad happen to you, you can’t have a better champion for your rights than John.”
