Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins has her most high-profile challenger yet as she looks to secure a fifth term in office.

Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon, a Democrat, announced Monday that she will challenge the moderate Republican for her seat next year. In her announcement video, Gideon ripped Collins for her voting record, including her support for the Republican tax plan and her role in the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh. “Susan Collins has been in the Senate for 22 years. And at one point maybe she was different than some of the folks in Washington, but she doesn’t seem that way anymore,” Gideon said.

Gideon also claimed that Collins’ vote for Kavanaugh has jeopardized women’s health. Collins is expected to be one of the most vulnerable Republican senators on the ballot next year, and her vote in support of Kavanaugh has made her a top target of liberal groups across the country. “Susan Collins’ vote to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court may be paying off for her, but its put women’s control of their own health care decisions in extreme jeopardy,” Gideon said.

Despite the intense criticism she has taken for her vote on Kavanaugh, Collins remains popular in her home state, and set a personal fundraising record earlier this year.
