Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez revealed Wednesday who she thought stood out on the first night of the Democrats’ 2020 presidential debate stage.

“I think [Democratic Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren knocked it out of the park,” Ocasio-Cortez told Stephen Colbert while appearing on “The Late Show.” “I think Julian Castro did a phenomenal job — I think both of them were great.”

Ocasio-Cortez suggested that while she herself was an underdog going into her 2018 congressional primary, she wasn’t particularly impressed with the presidential underdogs like Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan or former Maryland Rep. John Delaney.

“Sometimes you’re an underdog until you’re not,” the freshman congresswoman said before adding that “there’s always a chance.” (RELATED: 2020 Democratic Presidential Debate: Who Is Qualified And Who Is Struggling?)

However, the New York congresswoman had some words of encouragement when asked about her hometown mayor, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has consistently been polling below 1%.

“You know, I think de Blasio was good,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “What I have learned, too, going into D.C. is that not everyone is accustomed to being a New Yorker. I have to work with Iowans and Minnesotans, and they’re like ‘whoa, hey, relax. Take it down a bit.'”

“But you know what, the country has worked with New Yorkers,” she continued. “We have to atone for the one we have in the White House.”

Ocasio-Cortez has not endorsed a candidate for the 2020 Democratic primary yet and told Colbert she is still not ready to make an official endorsement.
