Colin Kaepernick has an open invitation to attend courses at a California law enforcement training center. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office extended the offer after taking exception to a comment he made about police training.
“You can become a cop in six months, and don’t have to have the same amount of training as a cosmetologist,” the 49ers quarterback said during a post-game interview.
Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Sergeant JD Nelson told Fox Business, “For him to say that we said ‘clearly he doesn’t know 100% what he’s speaking of.'”
Kaepernick’s comments came the day after a new cycle of trainees began the rigorous course. They will graduate March 14 after completing 1,064 hours of training according to the training center’s calendar. The offer for Kaepernick to join them appeared first on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook.
“We would like to cordially invite you to the Alameda County Regional Training Center (RTC) in Dublin, CA,” the office wrote.
The post says that deputies are trained with a “specially designed Use of Force simulator” that puts officers through various situations requiring split second thinking. In addition to training, the Sheriff’s Office also offered for Kaepernick to come join some of their veteran officers for a conversation about each other’s experiences with law enforcement.
“We hope that you will take this opportunity to meet with a new generation of law enforcement officers and have an open dialogue,” the post concludes.
