Women’s March organizer Linda Sarsour dismissed a question about female genital mutilation because a white male asked it at a college forum.
While speaking at a Dartmouth College event May 12, Sarsour was asked about a 2011 tweet were she pondered taking away the vaginas of an activist and a female genital mutilation survivor.
“Hi. So, um this question is really important because I believe that women’s rights are human rights,” the male student began. “So I really want to know under what circumstances is it acceptable to say that ‘I wish I could take away their vaginas. They don’t deserve to be women’?”

Sarsour’s since deleted tweet threatened violence against Brigitte Gabriel and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who survived FGM.
“Brigitte Gabriel = Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She’s asking 4 an a$$ whippin’. I wish I could take their vaginas away- they don’t deserve to be women,” Sarsour tweeted out in 2011.
Sarsour tried to avoid the question by pointing out a white male had showed up to an event created by an Asian-American.
“So let’s give some context here. This is an event organized by an Asian-American, right?… celebrating a community right? Talking about communities of color who are being directly impacted at this moment and I have a white male in the back who is not directly impacted by any of the issues I mentioned,” Sarsour responded to a round of applause.
She eventually dismissed the tweet as something she did in her twenties.
“I was in my twenties when was that? 2011?” Sarsour finished. “People say stupid shit sometimes, right?”
