Authorities in Raleigh, N.C. released a chilling 911 call late Sunday, made moments after 29-year-old Matthew Phelps awoke in the middle of the night to discover that he had killed his wife.
Paramedics and police responded to the call, made shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday, and rushed Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, also 29, to WakeMed Health & Hospitals, where she was pronounced dead after sustaining multiple stab wounds. Matthew Phelps was taken into police custody and charged with murder.

“I think I killed my wife,” Phelps told the dispatcher.
“What do you mean, what happened?” the dispatcher replied.
“I had a dream, and then I turned on the lights, and she’s dead on the floor,” he said.
“I have blood all over me and there’s a bloody knife on the bed, and I think I did it,” he added. “I can’t believe this.”
“Oh God,” he said as first responders reached his home. “She didn’t deserve this. Why?”
Phelps attributed his unstable condition to an imprudent dosage of cough syrup at one point in the call, telling the dispatcher he had taken a significant amount of Coricidin to help him sleep. A spokesman for Corcidin told ABC that the medicine does not induce side effects resulting in violent behavior.
“There is no evidence to suggest that Coricidin is associated with violent behavior,” the company said.
According to his Facebook page, Phelps works for a landscaping company, and studied missions and evangelism at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. The couple had been married for less than a year.
Phelps has no criminal record, but is being held without bond. He will appear in court Tuesday.
