A new genealogy project will help people determine if they are a descendant from the Mayflower, according to the New England Historic Genealogical Society Wednesday.
The new online Pilgrim Database allows people to search if they have Mayflower ancestry in a project a part of amercianancestors.org. The New England Historic Genealogical Society originally debuted the database in 2017 that includes 193,000 records from Pilgrims confirmed to have descents. The database already confirmed ancestry from 7,300 families or 59,000 people, according to The Associated Press.
“This exclusive database offers meticulous documentation for the fifth generation of Mayflower families who arrived in 1620 and left descendants,” the Pilgrim Database website says.
The Lineage Society page on the New England Historic Genealogical Society, another feature from the site, includes different programs to connect people with common ancestry. The lineage societies include Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Colonial Dames of America, among many others related to American history. Interest spiked in determining Mayflower ancestry in regards to the upcoming 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims reaching Massachusetts will be in 2020.
