President Donald Trump will host Russian President Vladimir Putin after 2019 and is open to a formal invitation to Moscow, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday.

“President Trump looks forward to having President Putin to Washington after the first of the year, and he is open to visiting Moscow upon receiving a formal invitation,” she said in a statement.

Putin offered his invitation to Trump Friday morning, saying phone calls are not sufficient.

National Security Advisor John Bolton issued a statement on a possible meeting with Putin Wednesday saying “the President believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we’ve agreed that it will be after the first of the year.”
