On Tuesday night, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin appeared on “The Late Show” and was asked about an incident last week involving the “m-word.”
During a panel discussion, Baldwin took issue with Daily Beast columnist Matt Lewis referring to the angry anti-Kavanaugh protesters who confronted Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at a restaurant as a “mob” and essentially banned the word from her program.
But when Stephen Colbert mentioned how she “got in a little trouble” with blowback on Twitter, Baldwin explained herself.
“At the time, the ‘mob’ word had been this talking point for Republicans from all up and down Capitol Hill in the wake of what had happened with Dr. Ford and Justice Kavanaugh,” Baldwin said. “And so when he brought the ‘mob’ word up again, I called him out.”
“Listen, I don’t want to be the word police and that was not my intention, but I also believe in calling out talking points,” she continued. “And to hear him bring that up, I had to say something.”
Baldwin added that if she had “irked the left and the right, then I’ve done my job.”
