Former Miss Uruguay Fatimih Davila Sosa was found dead in a Mexico City hotel room early Thursday.

Police were responding to an emergency call when they found Sosa hanged in the guest bathroom of the hotel. The victim was identified as the 31-year-old beauty queen, according to a report published by Fox News.

Sosa represented Uruguay at the Miss Universe pageant in 2006 and at the Miss World pageant in 2008. After her time as Miss Uruguay, Sosa spent some time modeling and even appeared in the soap opera “The Triumph of Love.”

The model had reportedly checked into the Mexico City hotel on April 23 ahead of a job interview. (RELATED: 2014 Miss Universe Paulina Vega Considered Plus Size Model After Gaining 2 Pounds)

“An acquaintance helped her move into the above-mentioned hotel ahead of a job interview,” prosecutors said in a statement.

Prosecutors have not ruled on the beauty queen’s death. A homicide investigation was launched to determine if she had committed suicide or if she had been killed by someone else, according to officials.

El Universal reported that there have been cases of foreign women being promised modeling work in Mexico City and then being tricked into sex trafficking or even being murdered.
