Lil Wayne thanked former President Donald Trump for pardoning him hours before the president was set to leave office.
“I want to thank President Trump for recognizing that I have so much more to give to my family, my art, and my community,” the 38-year-old rapper, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., tweeted Thursday to his millions of followers. The “Sucker for Pain” hitmaker’s other attorney, Howard Srebnick, spoke to Rolling Stone and said Trump’s pardon was consistent with “the views of many jurists.”
“A pardon for [Lil Wayne] is consistent with the views of many jurists — including Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett — that prosecuting a non-violent citizen for merely possessing a firearm violates the Second Amendment to the U. S. Constitution,” Srebnick shared.
As previously reported, Wayne pleaded guilty in December to illegally possessing a loaded handgun while traveling to Florida on a private plane in 2019.
