A giant slide in Detroit was temporarily shut down Friday after riders were going too fast and getting launched into the air.

The slide, located on Detroit’s Belle Isle, opened for the season last week after being closed for 2 years due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Detroit News.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said they washed and waxed the slide to try and slow down riders for this weekend when the slide will reopen, the outlet reported. (RELATED: Try To Watch This Reporter Go Down A Slide And Get Brutally Injured Without Wincing)

The slide has gone viral on social media, with groups going so far as to even make t-shirts.

“If you’re looking for an affordable activity to do with your kids, you should consider taking them on the giant slide in Detroit,” said Lamorne Morris, a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live, reported The Detriot News. “It’s fun. It’s only $1 but the concussions will last a lifetime.”

Detroit Rapper GMACCASH also created a rap about the slide following videos of riders being tossed around.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller for comment.
